Imagine Saudi Arabia if the oil conked out. It would be terrible. Making huge populations on flimsy foundations is very dangerous.

Not if they have appropriate mythology and method that enables them to design their young to be highly flammable, instantaneous, multipurpose generators of energy. :)

Okay. That was pitiful humor, I know. I take it back.

Experience suggests that all populations are dangerous to somebody or something, and ultimately to themselves. I feel it has to do with thinking (i.e., cleverness), a phenomenon that is habitually mistaken for wisdom.
