Very well stated mph.

GW's no child agreement with Kennedy was part of the Bush administration's "compassionate conservatism" which doesn't even sound good. Too many syllables.

It's too early to know, but at this point, Palin is closer to the Reagan mold than the Romney, Huckster types etc. The months ahead will tell us more as other candidates actually surface.

The republican primary debates will hopefully show us someone with true leadership skills, not afraid to speak their mind, with good instincts and good on their feet. And of course, their electability, as has been often discussed on this thread. Folks like McCain, Gingrich, Romney and Huckabee would surprise me to be the candidate. The demand for a fresh face is great, particularly one who has no ownership of the destruction of the economy and many conservative principles.
