The great Medfly scare of the 70's destroyed the popularity of Jerry Brown. The public love affair with the Hippy Gov was in full swing. He and girlfriend the lovely Linda Rondstat could do no wrong it seemed until the arrival of the Medfly. He hesitated with the Melathion spray treatment until the crops of central california were threatened,

It involved helicopters flying over at night,
spraying malathion on our cars and houses, as well as our plants. Hippies were pissed about the spots on their windshieds, and the corporate farmers were enraged that he waited so long. End of an era for Brown.
