Tim, Jim...
I've been following this debate with interest, abstaining from commenting mainly because I see merit in both of your assertions. However, there are some inequalities being compared. For example:
"As for 'the big lie', if the peace was a bunch of lies, or simply false without being dishonest, the best way to address that is to counter its arguments."
I would point out that in these regards Jim did, in fact, counter the essential arguments being made by Heritage, but it's difficult if not impossible to refute, never mind quantify, comments that are couched in innuendo, as evidenced in the original reference article, without resorting to same. It's always healthy to see an exchange of this type here, though. Thanks.
As a late aside, I just read Charles Brown's latest post related to a different topic entirely (citizen-based wireless emergency response networks), which includes an interesting quote at the end that I thought might be apropos of one of the points of contention in this discussion. From #msg-26797364:
"Indeed, for many people, the very first question they want answered even before 'what the heck are you doing' is 'for whose interests do you work?' For many people, it may also be the *last* question they need answered."
