I agree, axial. Tim's arguments are basically pure ideology, the notion that anything that just might be provisionable via a profit-making enterprise must be done that way, with government only as a last resort, because it's inherently evil, in extremist ideology.

I'd rather view government as being like a business whose constituents are also its owners. If it can do something more efficiently than a different type of entity, then it should do so.

Of course in pulling outside plant transmission, natural monopoly economics apply, so by definition there is market failure. That alone ends the Coase argument.
