The original theories are NOT based on mouse cell experiments. Cells from many organisms have been studied, including human cancer cells.
In any case, I'm not claiming the knock-out mice results are irrelevant. Just that Geron scientists believe the mouse is not a good model for the way telomerase acts in humans. If you want to read more about this issue, here's a reference for you to check out:
