Cleaning Up a Broken CFL

So let's see if I have this right.

The government considers lead to a hazardous material. There are reams of regulations dealing with lead paint remediation and contractors are now required to pay to take a special course on lead paint remediation and are to go about removal of lead paint in houses much the same way asbestos is removed (tenting, sealing the area, etc.).

Yet the government is mandating that people purchase light bulbs containing mercury, another known hazardous material, and use them in place of incandescent bulbs? We all know bulbs will be broken in the course of their use.

The inmates are running the asylum!
