I can appreciate that competition and seeking efficiency are things that don't make sense to a lot of people, particularly those on the far Left.

If you desire a free society, however, everyone is able to buy cheaper imported goods. That means that jobs will vanish here, unless we find cheaper ways of producing those same goods and services. You see, production of goods and services will always seek out those places offering the lowest costs in terms of land, labor, capital and management - in free markets, that is.

The world is too small to go back to a protectionist mentality, which is what actually the larger part of what provoked and sustained the Great Depression - though you say attitudes prior to that time are at fault. Not so, ...unless your view is from the far Left, and then it's just your opinion, not what history shows.
