"The Erosion of America's Middle Class" Wing nuts love this quote, which they often mis-attribute to various people. A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. Conveniently ignoring the fact it has never happened. However, at least the beginnings are starting to show up. Just not like they fantasize. The wealthy and corporations have gotten even greater control over the legislative process than ever before. And they are doing exactly what has been prophesied. Through their lobbyists and syncopates like i-node et al, they are in the process of showering themselves with largesse from the rest of the country. Dunno if it will end in dictatorship, but it will end messily.
