I agree with Hawkings. I have no reason to believe an alien civilization would have anything more in common with us than would a bee or a dinosaur. All life must kill and eat. And species only cooperate when working together serves to further those purposes of eating and surviving.

Even humans kill one another constantly and we are outwardly and biologically VERY much alike.

So if you are correct in believing that higher "civilizations" struggle with like-minded issues...we can hardly hope to define what they will kill and eat--or their reasoning...

Perhaps we are somewhat kinder to dolphins than other sea creatures because we posit some indwelling "intelligence"--which we value. But what if their "intelligence" went under our radar--as most "intelligence" undoubtedly does??? Or what if their intelligence was simply irrelevant to our needs or to our own biological imperatives??

In any event, I have a billion questions for every one guess I contemplate as an answer. These considerations are serious--but in the end merely playful speculation...
