They have all (the Fed Chief, Obama, the great majority of main street economist aka Keynsans, and Krugman have said this over an over again. They have said they want to lower unemployment. The Fed mandate is to achieve full or near full employment (meaning 3-4% unemployment as acceptable).

No one wants to be in debt. The way to get out of debt is to get people back to work. Getting people back to work creates demand for goods and services.

Krugman, the Fed Chairman, and most economists are not wordsmiths making broad comments about culture and cultural phenomenon (like David or Mel Brooks). They back up their opinions with data that is now (because of computers and such)available to people and allow themselves to let data and information to form opinions. Fear, anger, and flowery speech is not part of the equation.
