I think that as Americans, we have something to feel good about, with respect to the whole Reverend Jones non-event. Yes, our media couldn't resist flying into the usual orgy of over-coverage, so a scam artist with a stupid mustache got a whole lot more attention than he should have. And yes, because of that, even his threat of burning Korans caused a tremendous new wave of Anti-American sentiment in some parts of the world. But another thing that happened is that virtually every major political voice in the country was raised in protest. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama all spoke against Jones forcefully. As Americans, we should be proud of ourselves for that.
