I'm not a doc, but my guess is you either have weak or damaged lateral collateral ligaments or weak or damaged medial collateral ligaments. Look up braces on line. Find out which is best to use. Love your ankles............they're important. Imagine not ever being able to hike again. Nope.............not gonna happen!
