Well, I'm not an expert on the life of Mohammad and don't feel comfortable in any kind of spokesperson role but you asked how could reasonably decent people hold this guy up as a role model and I've suggested how you could come to that understanding. You don't seem interested in following up on that advice which is fine with me.

I see how Muslims pay attention to the Hadith and consider him a model citizen in every way. They don't consider pedophilia an acceptable model and don't consider Mohammad to be a pedophiliac, or rapist, or abuser of men or women. I know the arguments pro and con because I've looked at both sides enough to see how he could be viewed as evil or some sort of saint like person. I don't feel particularly committed to arguing either side. No one claims he is divine. To understand how that perspective could be possible under the circumstances (11 wives, one of them pre-pubessant, a wife resulting from the slaughter of her relatives, etc) you'd have to actually study the circumstances and the why's and where fores of his relationship from Islamic literature ... not just excerpts with accompanying 'proofs' taken by anti-Islamic web sites.
