Frank, my concerns about HFT are related solely to the practice, and the commingling of factors technological and structural that led to what is surely a questionable practice.

Regardless of moral issues, there is certainly a question of systemic risk. Discussions about that risk have been extensive, even leading to claims that the perception of danger has caused massive exodus by individual investors from the market -- a claim I'm not sure is supportable, but there it is.

I haven't introduced such discussions here because they're outside the thread's orbit. However as a general thing about the confluence of technology, markets and threats to everyone's economic welfare I believe the subject is a worthwhile inclusion.

Many consider HFT a threat more dangerous and immediate than any from Al-Quaeda.
