I said "Hitler was an avid follower of Martin Luther, and all Nazis had "Got mit uns" (God with us),on their belt buckles."

You said "Wrong war, Del. Gott mit uns is from the Kaiser's WWI army."

I have been advised by a WW2 memorabilia collector that the phrase "Gott mit uns" was used on the standard issue Army buckle. Here is a site with photographs of some Nazi buckles and descriptions of others. Several have the phrase on them. I was incorrect in saying that all Nazis had them on their buckles, and I misspelled Gott. manions.com

<Hitler wasn't even a follower of Martin Luther as a child, since his family had been Catholic.>

I don't think it matters too much what Hitler believed as a child. He certainly admired him as an adult. Thanks to Christine for posting the article by Professor Hakeem.

<The USSR showed us what official atheism can do. The Gulag will suffice, and it even has a bigger body count. In the mass-murder sweepstakes, atheism can claim a win.>

Freddy, do you know what Atheism means? Someone who doesn't believe in god or gods, period. I am not a believer in god. I am also not a Shriner, not a Republican, not a Mason, not a Lions club member, among other things that I am not. The Russin leaders that you speak of probably were not Shriners and you probably are not. Does that make you guilty of their deeds because you are also not a Shriner? Dictatorial leaders think of themselves as gods and use many of the same techniques that religious leaders use to manipulate people. You are not going to hang me with the guilt of deeds that somebody else does, unless I acquiesce.

Atheists by their very nature are independant minded, and are not very good joiners of groups. There is no Atheist "Pope". It is a very disorganized group of people. I have gone to one annual convention and there were about 200 people present from the entire country, yet we are held to blame for much of what is wrong. About the only thing that we agree on is that we don't believe in god, and don't want the government to be promoting Christianity, or any other religion, just as it says in the Constitution. I have never seen or heard of an Atheist manifesto, like Pat Buchanan once spoke of.
