According to International Data Corp. (IDC), the market for Intel-based servers, costing less than $25,000 consisted of 33% single processor units, 55% Dual (2-way) processor units and 12% Quad (4-way) processor systems.

This was for the period of Q297.

For comparison, in Q196 , the distribution was 60% (1-way), 31% (2-way), and 9% (4-way).

Clearly, the trend is toward more CPUs/server.
