lots of what I would call half-truths in that link.

bottomline - there is about 325 years worth of coal reserves in the U.S. That is using estimates based on older technologies (and current demand). As that site suggests, there are technologies being deployed now that allow for the recovery of a higher percentage of the reserves....and of the higher quality bituminous coals.

In the US, there is no shortage of coal. Other locations do have issues though. China has to be thinking of alternatives since they are burning it at twice the rate that we are and they have a third of the reserves.

economically speaking, coal is our trump card when it comes to the world economy. If we are smart about it and don't commit financial suicide by shutting down the coal industry, we will dominate the world economies by virtue of the fact that we will have the the cheapest most abundant source of power.
