Facts Speak: Gun Ownership Reduces Crime Posted on September 14, 2010 by NAGR Staff While anti-gun activists and politicians attempt to use fear play loose with the facts in order to spread their message, raw data unveils the truth regarding crime and firearms. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released its report on Crime in the United States 2009, and the results are not exactly what many would think.
Money quote from The Gun Counter:
The common assumption held by many is that crime is motivated by economic desperation. As we are in a recession and the real unemployment rate is well over 15% once you factor in the under-employed and those who have simply stopped looking, falling crime rates come as a real shock.
As the article goes on to point out, these statistics are from a year in which Americans purchased more firearms than the “top 21 countries in the world.” Apparently massive amounts of small arms in the hands of law-abiding citizens has not, in fact, led to “blood in the streets.” How odd.
And speaking of a lack of blood in the streets, apparently another place that is not experiencing increases in violence are Tennessee State Parks, in spite of legislation allowing citizens to carry firearms there.
“I am pleasantly surprised,” said Tennessee Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, who in 2009 lobbied against the so-called “guns in parks” bill. “I believed that it was not a good idea.
Time and time again, anti-gun campaigners have spoken about how violence would increase should firearms be allowed into parks, schools, churches, pick-your-favorite-place, etc.; yet every piece of evidence suggests the exact opposite. And, as the first story pointed out, this is in spite of a huge economic downturn which should create more violence, according to past “experts.” nationalgunrights.org |
