SPECIFICALLY: WHAT TO CUT?

Seriously restrain growth of entitlements. Restrain defense growth (and most of the other areas not specifically mentioned in this post). Cut just about all subsidies for the non-poor (and examine the subsidies for the poor, cutting what's not effective and cost-effective, and anything that involves too much in the way of perverse incentives). Kill the war on drugs. Reverse the trend to federalizing of ordinary crime. Sell off some federal land. Kill the department of education, and the department of energy, and most of the departments of commerce and agriculture. Seriously cut federal transfers to states and to local governments. Stop the bailouts and stimulus spending. Renegotiate government employee retirement benefits (at least for future employees if union contracts make cutting them for current employees impossible). Reduce the growth rate of federal employees wages/salaries going forward. Reduce the federal employee headcount going forward. Reduce regulatory enforcement costs (and the larger compliance costs, but those are mostly born by the private sector) by reducing regulation.
