When I read quotations from Islamic siras, I believe them.

You've claimed, for example, that Mohammed HAD to cut off 800 captured mens heads to protect his people because those were enemies dedicated to the destruction of the Muslims.

But thats not true.

Mohammed and the small Muslim community left their native Mecca, moved to Medina. Mohammed's own tribe from Mecca then besieged Medina. Medina at the time had in addition to the Muslims, three other tribes who accepted the Muslims and entered into an alliance with them. One of these tribes during the seige by the Meccans opened negotiations with the Meccans. The negotiations came to nothing because the Meccans gave up and lifted the seige themselves.

Then the Muslims and two other tribes attacked and besieged the faint-hearted Qurayza tribe. After surrendering and being tied up, Mohammed decided they should be killed for betrayal.

The exterminated Qurayza hadn't actually attacked the Muslims, just been willing to betray their alliance with them. Meanwhile, Mohammed never waged a war of extermination against his own tribe, the Quraysh, of Mecca even though they had attacked the Muslims.

You may think there are extenuating cirumstances that make the extermination of all the men of the Qurayza mandatory, but it doesn't seem that way to me. The same goes for the other atrocity stories .... the man tortured over hidden treasure for example.
