Opnext High Speed Technology Leadership on Display at ECOC 2010

Live technology demonstrations, MSA-compliant products to be featured during Europe’s largest optical communications conference

Press Release Source: Opnext, Inc. On Thursday September 16, 2010, 9:00 am EDTTURIN, Italy--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPXT - News), a global leader in state-of-the-art laser technology, today announced that the company will debut multiple live demonstrations at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) being held September 20 - 22 in Turin, Italy. The demonstrations will highlight key optics technologies, including a 40GbE transceiver module offering high throughput for system designers and a 100G CFP running at an OTU4 line rate. A separate display highlighting Opnext’s extensive portfolio of 40G modules will also be available.
Opnext will feature the following demonstrations at the exhibition:

• Industry’s first demonstration of error-free OTU4 transmission over 10 km single mode fiber (SMF) at 111.8 Gbps line rate. The demo incorporates an Opnext 100GE/OTU4 dual rate CFP module interfacing to the Anritsu MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer to simulate OTU4 traffic.
• Demonstration of a 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver transporting 40 GbE but also capable of running OTU3 traffic.

Additionally, Opnext will be participating in multiple technical sessions during the conference, including:

•“Algorithms for Coding, Detection and Impairment Mitigation in Coherent Transmission Systems,” Sunday, September 19; and
• 100G Market Update and Forecast, during the “Techno-Economic Aspects and Scenarios for the Deployment of 100 Gbs Coherent Systems,” Tuesday, September 21.

The extensive lineup of Opnext 40G optical devices represents the industry’s broadest product portfolio of client- and line-side solutions. The 40G product offering spans from 40G VSR, 300-pin MSA transceivers that offer compact size and reduced power dissipation for high density platform applications to 40G DPSK and DQPSK transponders for metro, regional and long haul applications. A 40G 300-pin PMDC module which allows DPSK signals to tolerate higher levels of optical polarization mode dispersion (PMD) will also be displayed. Each of the 40G modules adhere to industry standard interfaces and industry MSAs.
“As Opnext continues to lead the industry in 40G and 100G, we’re using ECOC to showcase our next generation capabilities and reinforce our leadership with another industry first,” said Gilles Bouchard, President and CEO of Opnext. “In addition to excelling at the higher transmission speeds and bringing 100G OTU4 transmission performance, Opnext continues to deliver and innovate in the 10G transceiver market.”
Opnext will be exhibiting in Stand #213 at ECOC 2010, being held September 20-22, at the Lingotto Fiere Exhibition Center in Turin, Italy.
