I plan to get an iPad eventually, but I sure won't be doing word processing or spreadsheets on it.

So what? Your desktop or notebook will still be there when you buy an iPad.

What the iPad will do will be to delay upgrades in notebooks and to possibly replace the purchase of additional computers. For example, a 25 year old has a three year old notebook and is deciding whether to buy a new model....instead buys an iPad and keeps the notebook for spreadsheets/word processing. They'll probably find themselves using the iPad the majority of the time while at home but they'l still need the notebook for certain situations.

There is going to be an impact on total PC/Mac sales as tablets continue to ramp.
