"I don't quite understand why Tea Party supporters don't care about that, despite what Dale said."
The single most unifying issue in the Tea Party is spending. Those that I know express the belief that despite the fact that they have repeatedly voted for Candidates who promised fiscal responsibility, and despite the fact that those candidates often won, the fiscal responsibility promise was never kept. It is my observation that this consensus began to form during Bush's Presidency, and really gained traction when TARP was passed.
In the meantime the so called smart people, Barney, Frank, Paulson, Greenspan, Pelosi, etc. have managed to screw up the country. Right now the tea party will only vote for budget busters. Not much else matters to them. They are prepared, if necessary, to throw out whoever wins if the cuts are not made and continue to do so until they prevail.
They would say why is it that O'Donnell is not qualified because of tax and financial problems. The Sec. of the Treasury did not pay his taxes, to say nothing of Rangel, whose, in addition to tax issues, appears to have engaged in questionable financial dealings. By the way I understand that Rangel and Geitner both filed returns which did not include all of their income, which is a crime. I think, but haven't been able to confirm, that O'Donnell reported all of her income but could not pay her taxes. Nothing criminal there. That is a civil matter. I am still not clear on this and wonder if you know.
As for the obsession with her admittedly peculiar sexual ideas, I don't see that they are at all relevant.
Remember Jimmy Carter lusted in his heart, never understood why people cared about that. Also, look at Barney Frank and his sexual escapades, which I don't care about but somehow don't disqualify him from holding office, but her views do. To the average tea party person, it seems like a double standard.
