Just tell me when the upward trend starts and I will be there buying some shares. I think it will be a while, though.
Novell has no other strategy but to hang on to their current customers. Somebody had a very good post on it, observing that none of the heavy duty database vendors (Oracle, Informix, and Sybase) gives a hoot about Netware. By the way, Oracle is porting to NT 4.0. Sincerely, I would like to ask you or anybody else who believes in Novell: what can possibly save this company from being crushed by Microsoft? I can even see Netscape escaping this fate because: i) they are much smarter than the people at Novell, ii) they have 80% of the market, and iii) Microsoft is having to give away software to compete with them, which can cause problems with the Department of Justice (it's dumping, and it is illegal). As for Novell, Microsoft can even afford to charge more for NT if it wants and still people would buy it over Netware. Let's be realistic. This company will go down like Lotus, Ashton Tate, Borland, Wordperfect, Wordstar, Symantec, and anyone else who gets in Microsoft way.
Believe me, I am not a Bill Gates fan. I was an OS/2 user for years and was forced to move to NT as my company moved away from Windows/DOS. I still like OS/2 better, but I would short any company whose future depended on OS/2's success. I keep my personal feelings separate from rational thinking. I am in the market to make money, not to get emotional satisfaction or to be o the side of the good guys against the evil Microsoft empire. |
