<<< if you believe as I do that the world is entering a unique period defined by flattening and then declining oil supplies, then for the first time in history we may be asked to grow the economy while simultaneously decreasing oil consumption, something that has yet to occur in the U.S.>>>

The economy is impacted by a broad range of issues, technologies, and natural resources.

Everything you say about the mathematics of peak oil can be correct but the consequences to the economy on short, medium, and long term basis will inevitably be impacted by other variables.

As an example, why would it be so inconceivable that some kid in a garage can come up with a PED (personal energy device - powered by, say wind, that is connected to an global energy grid and that changes the energy paradigm?).
I am not saying that is a likely scenario but use it only to illustrate the millions of scenarios and permutations that could impact the economy.
