It is not where we are that counts but where we want to be and how quickly we can get there.

Back in 1980 there were maybe a few hundred thousand IBM maniframes (IBM 370's, 390's, etc). There were maybe several hundred thousand IBM XT PCs.

Each mainframe had perhaps 50MB cpu 200-300MB DASD.

Today there must be billions of PC's each 10 times more powerful then the average Mainframe 30 years ago.

Next time things are likly to change even more rapidly eg- the next shift in paradigm.
