if I am full of it -- refute this -- tell me how giving money to people who are not engaged in the production of good and services that others can and want to buy -- will call forth greater prosperity -- tell me how that works

Our economy is demand limited, we can produce much more than we can afford. Thats why unemployment is currently high: We don't need the extra production. The unemployed, with reduced incomes, is a feedback which worsens the problem by further depressing demand.
