New Zealand is third in the world in economic freedom after Hong Kong and Singapore. stuff.co.nz

But unlike in Hong Kong and Singapore, NZ has a huge bludger mentality with hordes of people living off government loot. It's strange since the NZ culture was so anti-bludger just a few short decades ago and almost nobody lived on the state [as welfare bludgers, though there were many government employees through NZ Rail, NZ Post, Telecom and what have you]. Somehow, becoming a bludger has become the norm.

It started out with well-meaning people supporting the few hopeless people getting some public support, but the few turned into a flood.
