On the subject of power co auto shutdown of a/c residential. It's a common request here in NC / Duke Power - to get a rate reduction. I have it and it's never been a problem usage or comfort wise. I think it's a wise use of resources and one that doesn't impair personal freedom/democratic ideals.
Dark fiber on the power line? I've been looking at the strings for months now...am wondering how the utility of that fiber could be increased by leasing it to the telco's....or the cable co's. Then I could read Your meter : ).
