External device no longer recognizable. Running windows 7. This was resolved after much trial and error.

I was attempting to connect my external drive to create an image using Acronis. I have done this multiple times in the past without problems. The HD connected via Esata did not work.. Thinking it was a problem with the connection I tried a USB connection which was also a no go. In both cases noting appears in device manger. I tried this also with a second external and have the same problem. Connecting a usb flash drive did work on the same USB port.

After all of the above I did a system restore and everything seems ok.

Being cautious I decided to incrementally load security updates.
The only program loaded before the problem was the beta version of IE 9. Since IE is my secondary browser I will stick with IE 8 until the release version of the new browser cones out.

Has anyone else had any problems with the IE beta?
