Incompetents, fools, and lunatics can be elected to office pretty much everywhere democracy is practiced. It's just a question of the right circumstances coming together. O'Donnell's willingness to endure public scrutiny may be closely related to the fact that she doesn't know she's not qualified to be in the Senate. I believe it springs from being delusional.
