New one: IVOB, last trade .05, market cap around $2.5 million. Website is invobioscience.com
I am introducing this as a potential short term play. Longer term depends on financing terms and the outcome of clinical trials on various countries--two issues that currently are very cloudy in terms of terms and timelines.
However, this company is very interesting and I think may be gearing up for a promotional period as it prepares to raise money. The market cap is very low given the technology they have.
What they do: They have a capsule which is used in place of traditional invitro fertilization (IVF). It is placed in a woman's vagina for natural incubation. This opens the door for gynocologists to offer IVF because the upfront cost of 1/2 to $1 million that fertilization clinics require disappears. In addition, the procedure costs couples about 1/2 the amount of traditional IVF (which is the second line of treatement after IUI), on avg about $12,000 vs $25,000 total. IVOB sells the devices for between $75 and $400, which is how they intend to make their money. They say numerous uses in recent years show an efficacy rate nearly equivalent to traditional IVF.
The market: The market is very large (over 150 million couples), and their approach is viable because of the lower costs for providers and patients. They have spent the last several years educating and helping physicians set up the service in about a dozen different countries. They are laying the groundwork, but it appears from the 10Q that clinical trials proving the results in each country may be unofficially required by the potential patients. This is why revenues haven't yet performed.
Why now? The market cap is very low but there are rumors of good things about to happen. I am spreading the rumor here, but I have no idea if they are true. And, I have no idea if there will be a 'stock promotion' period around the corner--it just kind of smells like that might be the case, as they do need funds and don't want to get them at this low share price. I could be wrong, and I'm not pushing this on a fundamental basis at all. Just a heads up for an interesting speculative play. See my next post which tells of the potential upcoming events
