I tend to agree with you. However, I'd like to add that it usually pays to turn bearish slowly and to turn bullish quickly.

As for Gold, I don't see it as a buy-and-hold investment at this point, but it certainly can be traded. I consider it at a high-risk price right now and likely to undergo at least a 40% correction before it moves substantially higher.
