I don't know what you are talking about. The external debt of the USA is in dollars. We can just print them. A trade war eliminates the import financing requirement, because it eliminates the trade deficit. The US routinely used to save 10% of its GDP, which is plenty for all investment that i can envision. Already US savings are more than 6% of GDP right now, up from 0% or negative only a few years ago. We obviously need to cut down defense spending by 50% or so and get rid of the vast majority of overseas bases. We won't need to safeguard oil and trade routes anymore. Let those that need the stuff do it :-)
