On the positve side GDP growth was 3.5% a year from 1950-1980 and 2.5% a year 1980-2010 and this probably overstated by 1% a year 1980-2010 as growth was brought forward by too low interest rates and the bubble in assets. When the pain is over we should return to 3.5% growth a year which is real as no more GDP loss from bubbles and it will not be borrowed from the future. The problem is we never deserved to appear to have 10X the wealth of the developing world that we did 6 years ago.Things would be a lot less painful if people realized they were never as wealthy as they thouht and had a free ride for awhile. As they will not see this and our wages will=Brazil wages in the next 5-7 years (Brazil going up more than us down) it will be very painful
