Some perspective on REEs

Numbers are estimates, and don't match up well.

Total production at the mine is about 180,000 - 200,000 tons per year. Panamax dry bulk carriers run 60,000 to 80,000 tons, so the whole year's production could fit on three 3 ships.

The total dollar value from the mines is about 1.2 to 1.6 Billion usd.

There's huge value added in refining and separating.

From the mine, ore prices run from 1 to a few dollars per kg.

Weighted Average price for pure metal is about 11-25 usd / kg(mostly Cerium and Neodymium)

Most of the prices on the internet tend to be for small quantities of lab grade metal, this would not represent the bulk of sales to a magnet maker.

Long term high volume contracts will have different prices, also, refining appears to take a few months, so year to year price relations of ore and metal lose correlation.
