The failure of Congress to provide certainly by refusing to vote not to raise taxes will play havoc on the market. People who would normally sell stocks with losses in September and provide the bounce for the the January effect don't know for sure what to do.

Volume should remain lower through the end of the year than it normally would. This will adversely affect brokers and reduce bonuses. The reduced incomes of the highly paid investment bankers hurts New York luxury retailers. That snowball hurts every New Yorker.

The bottom line is that we should look for a smaller bounce in January. This might adversely affect investor confidence next year.

Oh the consequences of democrat leaders' fearful inaction.
