It just highlights the the military, like the cops, offers possibilities that have the result of often attracting the wrong kind of people..

I think a lot of people in the military join to escape their projected lives, in small towns, in big cities and in rural areas. It's a way OUT, a way to see the world, to leave the family or non-family, and whatever hopeless situation they seem to see. They know they'll get three hots and a cot, at the very least, and they won't be HERE.

Other people just get out on their own, without any help from the gummint. The people with gumption.
