I'll second your CA view, while I don't live there but eventually plan to, I've spent quite a bit of time in San Diego as I have family there. Forget the rest of the country, if you want mild sunny days most of the year with cool nights the SD area just can't be beat. I've been there in August and it's around 70, and I've been there in late January, also in shorts... If you want to see snow just drive east a bit into the mountains around Julian, or head up toward San Bernardino and up to Lake Arrowhead. You can ski and hit the beach in the same day.

Regards,
John
