Ted, > I know the US pie is bigger than that but I am keeping the numbers simple....

The finite pie theory is intended for those who have to "keep the numbers simple."

Most of us are smarter than that, Ted.

Hmmm.....a little insecure, are you?

I kept it simple to make it easier for me.

This is what actually happened in the last ten years again using small numbers to make it easier for me.

In 2000, let's say the total income and assets of the US was $100 billion. Of course we know that figure was in reality much bigger. Over the past 10 years, let's say hypothetically that figure grew by $20 billion. The vast majority of that growth in income and assets went to the top 5-10% with only a small portion going to the remaining 300+ million people in the US. That inequity has been going on for decades and with each passing decade the upper 5-10% controls a greater and greater percentage of the total wealth of the US. Not only does their portion grow faster even as their starting base is much higher but its become increasingly restrictive as to how much trickles down to the rest us.

Because controlling so much wealth creates considerable power, you have even Dems like Ben Nelson apologizing to the rich for the Dems not willing to allow the rich to keep their tax cuts. It gives the rich an unfair advantage even in a democracy. That should bother all of us but apparently, it doesn't bother wingers for some bizarre reason. Go figure!
