I see those parenting books as part of the grand progressive social experiment. Left on our own we can figure out the child rearing thing just like we can figure out what is best for ourself and our families without big brother nudging us into the "right" decision. Have we so lost touch with our essential being that we can't do what dogs and cats and cows and tigers and kangaroos do without ever having read a book? My son sucked his thumb...when he was ready to stop, he stopped When my son wanted to get out of the diapers, we didn't potty train him...he came out one day and let us know that he didn't need diapers anymore. Nobody could ever convince me that they know more about raising my son than my wife and I. I don't give a damn how many degrees they have or how many books they have written.
