White House: Fox News is ‘destructive’ but Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow provide an ‘invaluable service’ By: Mark Hemingway Commentary Staff Writer 09/29/10 3:05 PM EDT There was quite the hullabaloo over President Obama calling Fox News “destructive” (in a roundabout sort of way) in his recent Rolling Stone interview. As if that weren’t self-serving enough, here’s the deputy White House press secretary Bill Burton now singing the praises of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow: <<< “If you’re on the left, if you’re somebody like Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow or one of the folks who helps to keep our government honest and pushes and prods to make sure that folks are true to progressive values, then [the president] thinks that those folks provide an invaluable service,” Burton told reporters. >>> Uh huh. Any partisanship evinced by Fox is destructive, but those partisans that agree with us night after night are just keeping government honest. Note that White House is not singing the praises of the liberal bloggers who are actually more concerned with staying true to progressive values than winning elections.
