Investor A, RE: DEC Alpha memory subsystem. DEC Alpha memory subsystem is very good, but *it was optimized to have 3 levels of cache -- L1, L2 and a very large L3.* So you can see why Intel Pentium, Pentium II and Pentium MMX, based on stolen Alpha technology, do very poorly when all there is is a puny L1 cache. PS - it will be *even worse* with Windows 98 and Windows NT!! Petz
