I think the mayor of Detroit has the right idea which is to retire as much of the land as possible and turn it into organic farms. Those farms could service much of the surrounding cities including Chicago as well as Detroit and its suburbs.

Cities don't die easily. There are reasons why Detroit grew like it did. I have to believe some of those reasons are still in play.
