I've read that many former retail investors have thrown in the towel and given up. Could be they don't have the $$$ to invest anymore like they used to. Heck if people can't pay their mortgages and credit cards they certainly don't have money to fuel the markets. Neither do the newly unemployed. Others are probably sick and tired of losing money and have stuck their money elsewhere.
