Push technology has several vendors now (Marimba, Tibco, Netscape, etc) and there will be more in the future. Pointcast doesn't sell push technology , it sells a network and advertising. There is a huge difference.

Take broadcast television as an example. The technology to broadcast tv signals has been around for 50 years. You can buy it from many vendors. Does that mean a network like CBS should be worried ? No.

Poincast pioneered push technology, but they built there business model around building a huge network, aggregating content, and selling advertising/sponsorships. Once users "subscribe" to a network service like Pointcast they are not very likely to switch. This is why Pointcast has been focusing on building the user base.

I think Pointcast can be very successful. I am looking forward to the IPO.
