This is typical:

nytimes.com

The right is working over time and spending many millions to overturn any progressive legislation that exists in this country.

Then we have Manchin in WV.....a popular governor. He was expected to be a shoo in in the WV senate race. Why isn't he? Because Obama opposes hill top coal mining. Miller in Alaska, who has a growing and commanding lead, wants to open the ANWR and start drilling there so that after the federal gov't fails [his words, not mine], Alaska will have control over its own resources. Miller is so far right its breath taking and you, an Alaskan, go blithely along wondering why Obama gave up on the public option. Do you think Alaska is an anachronism and the lower 48 is solid blue? How do you explain such high expectations for Obama when you come from a state that has produced the likes of Miller and Palin?

Yet you, Greenwald and others refuse to accept the reality that the US is not left of center, let alone a liberal utopia. And you want Obama to rule as if he has a liberal mandate. The insanity of that thinking is mind boggling. I can understand Greenwald....he's trying to make a name for himself but you?

I wish the US was a liberal country. However, I accept the reality that its somewhat closer to GW Bush than it is to Obama, and its quite aways from where I sit. My hope was that a popular president like Obama could move the country a little more to the left, but that now is in doubt. How can he when the left inartfully stombles to stand behind him?
