Those protesters are disregarding the sanctity of life, they should show some restraint and some respect for the pain and dignity of those in mourning... this is something very human and very basic, free speech has nothing to do with it... any fool would know better than to jeer and taunt those in deep mourning, it's just basic human common sense...
I strongly agree, GZ, nevertheless, the SCOTUS is considering this case as it relates to the first amendment. I contend, like you, that the first amendment is irrelevant here.
the question of free speech is irrelevant, as it is irrelevant to prevent someone from yelling "BOMB" at an airport or "FIRE" in a crowded theater...
I strongly agree. Yelling "bomb" when there is no bomb, and "fire" when there is no fire are illegal offenses. Likewise, spreading false lies about someone is a civil offense, and could constitute a criminal offense in some cases.
I think the SCOTUS should rule that this case has nothing to do with free speech.
The family should sue the funeral protesters for libel, slander, defamation of character, and harassment, and the lower court should NOT be allowed to overturn the award on basis of the first amendment, which is irrelevant in the case.
