There are places in which protests are if not prohibited by act, they are punished all the same. Freedom of speech does not apply in the courtroom, to members of the Armed Forces, to Federal Officers, Agents etc.

There are certain circumstances, surroundings and occasions that simply should not be interrupted by outbursts and other such displays.

I don't see it as a slippery slope if they were to declared funerals among those areas and activities protected from disruption, distraction and or painful abuse.

Tide, the legal term for this is "time, place and manner" restrictions. They have been held to be a reasonable limit on the exercise of free speech in certain cases. You are allowed to exercise your free speech rights, just not right here and now, depending on the circumstances.
